Satoru Terao won the men’s 500 and 1,500 meters and Yuka Kamino won both women’s races on the opening day of the short track national championships on Saturday.

Three-time Olympian Terao clocked a meet record 42.055 seconds in the 500 and 2:22.968 in the 1,500 at Kyoto Aquarena to take the lead with 68 points. Kamino crossed the line in 46.689 in the 500 and 2:31.093 in the 1,500 to top the women’s standings with 68 points.
