Kenji Jojima hit a pair of homers and Lindsay Gulin limited the damage to a run in 6 2/3 innings of work for his third win in four starts as the Fukuoka Daiei Hawks defeated the Orix BlueWave 4-1 in the Pacific League on Tuesday.

Gulin (3-0) yielded 10 hits to the 29 batters he faced at Yahoo BB Stadium and needed 118 pitches in his outing in which he struck out six and walked one. Roosevelt Brown drove in the only run for the home team on a pinch hit RBI single in the seventh.

Jojima’s two homers were off South Korean southpaw Koo Dae Sung (0-3) — a solo shot in the second and a two-run homer in the seventh. Julio Zuleta also homered off Koo in the fifth.

Lions 8, Fighters 3

At Seibu Dome, Masahide Kaizuka ignited a four-run opening inning with a bases-loaded single before he hit his first homer of the season in the fifth in Seibu’s triumph over Nippon Ham, which went home with its third straight loss.

Scott McClain and Tatsuya Ozeki also chipped in two runs apiece to help make a winner of Kazuyuki Hoashi (3-1). Hoashi was charged with three runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings while Carlos Mirabal (1-2) gave up six runs in five innings.

Marines 4, Buffaloes 3 (10)

At Chiba Marine Stadium, Kiyoshi Hatsushiba doubled off Hector Carrasco with two out and two on in the 10th inning to lift Lotte to a “sayonara” victory over Kintetsu after the 37-year-old infielder forced an extra inning on a game-tying RBI sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Masahide Kobayashi (2-1), who has posted five saves this season, earned the win for working out of a one-out, one-on situation in the top of the 10th.


BayStars 5, Giants 3

Seiichi Uchikawa drove in two go-ahead runs with a double off Yomiuri starter Koji Uehara in the top of the ninth as the Yokohama BayStars snapped a three-game with a 5-3 win over the Giants at Tokyo Dome on Tuesday.

Kazuhiro Sasaki pitched the ninth, allowing one hit and walking one to earn his fourth save. Reliever Takeo Kawamura (1-0) got the win.

Tigers 9, Dragons 6

At Nagoya Dome, George Arias drilled a two-run homer in the fourth and cracked an RBI single in Hanshin’s go-ahead sixth as the Tigers downed Chunichi.

Swallows 4, Carp 2

At Jingu Stadium, Noriyuki Shiroishi’s RBI single triggered a go-ahead three-run eighth as Yakult came from behind to halt Hiroshima’s six-game winning streak.
