PARIS – Japan’s Kayoko Obata, whose personal best was the fastest among all competitors in the women’s race, placed 11th at the Paris Marathon on Sunday.
Obata came down with a 39 C fever two days ago and had to settle for an unimpressive time of 2 hours, 42 minutes, 59 seconds over the 42.195-km course while Salina Kosgei of Kenya won the top honors in 2:24:32 in her marathon debut.
Ambesa Tolosa of Ethopia won the men’s race in 2:08:56.
