Japan failed in its bid to reach the final after falling 3-0 to Hong Kong in a playoff on Friday but captured its second straight bronze medal in the women's competition at the World Team Table Tennis Championships.
The Japanese women had already secured at least a bronze after beating Hong Kong in preliminary Group B on Wednesday, but Aya Umemura, Ai Fukuhara and Ai Fujinuma each lost in straight sets in the rematch.
