Two-time Olympic medalist Hiroyasu Shimizu stormed to victory in the men’s 1,000 meters for his second win in as many days at the Asama invitational in Nagano Prefecture on Friday.

Shimizu, who rewrote his own meet record in the 500 meters on Thursday, clocked 1 minute, 11.97 seconds at Asama Onsen International Skate Center to beat Masaaki Kobayashi, claiming the two-distance double for the second consecutive year.

In the women’s 1,000 meters Sayuri Yoshii timed 1:20.29 for her first title. Shihomi Shinya, winner of the 500 meters on Thursday, pulled out of the 1,000 due to a cold.
