Sugiyama into final LINZ, Austria (Kyodo) Japan's Ai Sugiyama defeated Russian Vera Zvonareva 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 on Saturday to book her place in the singles final at the $585,000 Linz WTA tournament.

No. 2 seed Sugiyama, who is aiming for a place in the season-ending championships, will face No. 4 seed Nadia Petrova, who reached the first WTA Tour final of her career after beating Patty Schnyder 6-2, 6-2.

The 28-year-old completed a winning double as she advanced to the doubles final by partnering South African Liezel Huber to a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Czech pair Iveta Benesova and Michaela Pastikova.
