Two-time Olympic medalist Hiroyasu Shimizu completed a sprint double Sunday when he won the men's 1,000 meters in a meet record at the Asama invitational.

Shimizu clocked 1 minute, 11.78 seconds to claim his first 1,000-meter victory in nine years at the annual meet, adding to the 500 title he won Saturday at Asama Onsen International Skate Center.

Shimizu was the only skater to clock under 1 minute, 12 seconds, crossing the line 0.30 faster than runnerup Yusuke Imai. In other races, Shihomi Shinya beat Olympic skater Sayuri Osuga to win the women's 1,000 meters in a meet-record 1:19.41.

Eriko Seo took the women's 3,000 in 4:26.06 while Naoki Yasuda captured the men's 5,000 in 6:50.71.
