Tokyo Verdy's Brazilian striker Edmundo will return to Japan shortly as he nears full fitness following surgery on a foot injury, the player's attorney said Sunday.

After spending almost three months in Brazil recovering from the operation, Edmundo is expected back on the pitch in two or three weeks.

Edmundo joined Verdy at the end of last season and helped the club stave off relegation from the first division with three wins and a draw in his five J. League appearances. The striker was rewarded with a new one-year contract for the 2002 season.

Verdy has struggled without its star striker in the new season, losing both its opening fixtures.
