Having lived for the last year in an apartment with a wonderful view of Tokyo Bay and the Hamarikyu gardens, I would think I am living in paradise except for the early Sunday morning drag races. Unless I am blessed with bad weather, from 2 a.m. until sunrise I feel that I am trapped in a video game or the movie "Fast and Furious; Tokyo Drift."
Motorcycles, street racers, you name it -- and they are out on the Bayshore expressway, mufflers absent, roaring up and down, racing and chasing each other. Clearly speed violations are rampant and there are accidents just waiting to occur. None of this street racing can be legal. Where are the Tokyo police? Afraid of the yakuza who make up the bulk of the racers? Asleep in their koban while I am sleepless from the noise?
