Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said Friday U.S. President Joe Biden has shown support for the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, but it remained unclear whether Biden or U.S. athletes will join the rescheduled games amid the pandemic.

"I told the president about my determination to realize the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer as a symbol of global unity," Suga said during a joint news conference held after a bilateral summit in Washington.

"President Biden once again expressed his support for this determination," Suga said.
