ISHINOMAKI, MIYAGI PREF. – A maker of cod roe products in Miyagi Prefecture has attracted young job-seeking mothers with an offer of on-site child care, in the process revitalizing a business and community that is still recovering from the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
Despite being located near the foot of a mountain some 1.6 kilometers from the Pacific coast, the Ishinomaki-based tarako and mentaiko producer Minato Suisan Co. was not spared from the approximately 2-meter-high tsunami waves that largely destroyed the city.
