The driver of a post office delivery van carrying dozens of parcels who went missing along with the van last week in Kyoto was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of embezzlement, police said.

The arrested man was identified as Kazuki Shouno, 27. The small van left a local post office in the city on May 9 and the driver had remained unaccounted for since then, Japan Post Co. said.

The police found the delivery vehicle around 1 p.m. Wednesday in a coin-operated parking lot in the city's Higashiyama Ward and discovered Shouno sleeping inside.

The driver belongs to an Osaka Prefecture-based contractor to Japan Post. The company contacted police on Friday seeking help in locating the driver.
