An Aichi man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of repeatedly dipping his finger into a stew server at a convenience store and posting a video of the act on the internet, police said.

Yusuke Toyoshima, 28, was arrested for allegedly obstructing business at a Circle K store in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture, by touching the oden, a Japanese stew of eggs, daikon and fish cakes, sitting on its counter just after midnight on Nov. 28. The man admitted to the charges, according to the police.

The incident came to light after the mainstream media started reporting on the man's social media video. The police identified the suspect as Toyoshima after his mother, who saw the video on TV, came to the store to apologize.

The store disposed of the oden and cleaned the container, the store staff said.

The police are investigating the man's motives and suspect that another person could be involved because the video appears to have been taken by someone else.

"We hope to conduct strict hygiene management and provide safe products," said an official of FamilyMart Co., which runs the store.
