A man was arrested Monday on suspicion of fatally stabbing an 86-year-old acquaintance in Fukuoka Prefecture, police said.
The 61-year-old suspect, Takahide Fujioka, allegedly admitted to killing Sachio Ayado over a dispute, the police said. Both are from the city of Nakama.
Prior to his arrest, Fujioka said he was not involved in the incident, but he also said he had borrowed money from Ayado in the past.
The police suspect that Fujioka stabbed Ayado to death on or around New Year's Day in the victim's home. An acquaintance of Ayado found his body on the afternoon of Jan. 3.
