Some youths who turned out for Coming-of-Age Day ceremonies Monday were taken into police custody after they went wild during and after celebrations.

In Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, a 19-year-old allegedly punched a police officer in the face after he and several friends were warned not to lie on a road with a celebratory banner spread wide.

According to Hyogo police, the man, who is not a 20-year-old but came to the venue to celebrate the coming of age of his friends, has denied punching the officer.

In Osaka, meanwhile, Kento Nishi, 20, was arrested for throwing canned coffee at police, who tried to settle a quarrel he started with a friend after attending a ceremony.

According to witnesses, Nishi was heavily drunk and started a fight with a friend after he was warned by the friend. When police came to get things under control, Nishi threw canned coffee at a police car.
