Akie Abe, the wife of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, made several diplomatic visits while accompanying her husband on his six-nation swing through Europe ending Thursday, government officials said.

The first lady visited an elementary school in London for students with autism and other developmental disabilities.

At a school for Japanese children in the British capital, she read to the pupils and donated a collection of books, including some of her own works.

In Portugal, Akie spent time at a multicultural day care center.

"I want the children to grow up being true to themselves and respecting one another," she was quoted as saying.
