The Meteorological Agency says the rainy season has arrived in Okinawa, the first prefecture to experience it this year.
The season arrived four days earlier than the annual average for Okinawa and five days earlier than last year, agency officials said.
Heavy rain hit many parts of the prefecture on Monday morning, and most days this week will see clouds and rain.
The rainy season in Okinawa typically ends around June 23.
