An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.6 jolted southwestern parts of Japan early Monday morning, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

No tsunami warning was issued after the 5:11 a.m. quake, originating around 120 km underground off the coast of the main island of Okinawa.

The quake registered intensity 4 on the Japanese seismic scale of 7 in several parts of Kagoshima and Okinawa prefectures, including the town of China on Okinoerabu Island in Kagoshima and the city of Uruma on Okinawa, according to the agency.
