Tokyo prosecutors on Friday indicted an architect for professional negligence after a supermarket parking lot ramp he designed in the western suburb of Machida collapsed during the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011.

Naoki Takagi, 67, allegedly failed to strictly check the ramp's design. Two people were killed and six injured when it collapsed.

Takagi said his structural calculation for the ramp was accurate and blamed its collapse on shoddy construction.
