Tokyo Electric Power Co. intends to assign veteran managerial employees, although not its executives, to duties linked to damage from the Fukushima No. 1 meltdowns, a company source said.

The plan, which Tepco hopes to introduce in April, envisages managerial employees aged 55 or older handling work related to victim compensation, decontamination and even decommissioning of reactors at the No. 1 power plant, the source revealed Friday.

Subject to negotiations with its labor union, Tepco could send around 150 such employees per year to Fukushima, providing they agree to relocate, according to the source.

Concurrently, wages for Fukushima-based employees would be increased.
