Department store sales slipped 0.6 percent in October from the year before on a same-store basis for the first fall in three months, as unfavorable weather crimped autumn and winter clothing sales.

There were unusually high temperatures for October until past the middle of the month, when private consumption then took an additional beating from three typhoons that either pounded or grazed the archipelago, the Japan Department Stores Association said Tuesday.
