Kintetsu Department Store Co. logged a roughly 30 percent increase in sales in July from a year earlier, while its new flagship store that opened two months ago saw an 80 percent jump in shoppers over the outlet it replaced, the company said.

However, the pace of visitors at the Osaka store, located in the nation's tallest commercial building, Abeno Harukas, slowed from June's 160 percent gain. Kintetsu said restaurants and food shops have been particularly successful in drawing customers to the store, which opened June 13.

The retailer is aiming at 27 million visitors and ¥104 billion in sales at the flagship in fiscal 2013, a level it deems achievable.
