Thailand's Kasikornbank PCL signed an agreement Thursday with the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry to help small Japanese firms establish bases in Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries, officials said.

Small and midsize companies will be provided information on potential business partners in the area and help in organizing seminars, the officials said.

Many Japanese firms still have a strong interest in maintaining business bases in Thailand despite the major flooding in 2011 that damaged many factories. Small and midsize firms account for almost half of the 7,000 Japanese companies operating in Thailand.

Kasikornbank has formed cooperative arrangements with 24 Japanese regional banks so far to help Japanese firms establish bases in Thailand.
