Toshiba Corp. said Thursday it has an order to deliver electrical equipment systems for trains operated in suburban Rio de Janeiro for about ¥6 billion.

The manufacturer said it will supply propulsion, train monitoring and other systems for 60 trains between this September and December 2014 to a consortium of two Chinese companies.

Toshiba views Brazil as an important emerging market that is likely to see major growth in the coming years, as it promotes a growth acceleration program, including investment in electricity generation and transmission, and upgrades of its transportation network ahead of next year's soccer World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics.
