NEC Corp. said Monday it will strengthen its comprehensive solution services for retailers in the Asia-Pacific region under its strategy to expand its overseas business.

NEC Asia Pacific Pte Ltd., its Singapore unit for supervising Asia-Pacific operations, will establish a regional retail business support center in Malaysia in May to provide regional retailers with sales support and technological and human resources development services.

The company said it foresees an abundance of business opportunities in countries such as Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia, where convenience and drug stores are expected to increase.

NEC said it will aim to achieve overseas sales of ¥100 billion in fiscal 2017, compared with ¥20 billion estimated for the current business year through the end of this month. In the Asia-Pacific region, it will aim to boost its sales to around ¥20 billion from an estimated ¥2.5 billion.
