Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. said Tuesday it has received an order to supply turbines and generators for a power plant fired by heavy oil that will be built by a Saudi Arabian state-owned power company.

The firm plans to deliver four sets of 700-megawatt-class supercritical pressure steam turbines and generators, as well as boiler components, to the 2,800-megawatt plant in Jeddah between September 2014 and March 2015.

The supercritical-pressure, heavy-oil-fired power generation facility, the first of its kind to be built by the oil-rich Middle Eastern country, can reduce oil use and will emit less carbon dioxide when compared with a subcritical pressure power plant, Mitsubishi said.
