Mitsubishi Electric Corp. and Toshiba Corp. said Thursday they have appealed the European Commission’s recent decision to reduce their fines for allegedly participating in a cartel linked to sales of gas insulated switch-gear products.
In appeals filed with the European General Court in Luxembourg, the two companies called for revising the decision issued June 27, in which the commission revised earlier-imposed fines downward to €74,817,000 (¥7.5 billion) for Mitsubishi Electric and €56,793,000 (¥5.7 billion) for Toshiba.
It also ordered the two firms to share a separate fine of €4,650,000 (¥500 million), unchanged from the earlier decision.
The two companies’ suits against the commission’s cartel allegation are also pending at the European Court of Justice.
