Violinist Tatsuki Narita has won second prize at an international music competition in Belgium, the organizers said Saturday.

Narita, 20, took second prize for violin at the Queen Elisabeth Competition, known as one of the world's top three music competitions. The other two are the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition and the International Tchaikovsky Competition.

In addition to violin, the Belgian competition offers prizes for composition, piano, and voice. Japanese composer Kenji Sakai won top prize in the composition division for the 2011 contest. His winning piece was played by the 12 finalists in the violin contest, which included himself.
