Police turned over to prosecutors Friday their case against a 45-year-old woman in Hidaka, Saitama Prefecture, who allegedly possessed and was trying to sell about 16,000 counterfeit items featuring popular characters such as Hello Kitty and Anpan Man.
The prosecutors will decide whether to indict the woman, whose name is being withheld by authorities.
According to the police, the woman bought the illegal products from suppliers in China through Internet auctions and was trying to resell them through Internet-based transactions.
The woman was aware the products were illegal knockoffs and violated laws related to copyright and trademarks, the police alleged.
