Noda to attend Okinawa ceremony

Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda will attend a ceremony on May 15 in Ginowan, Okinawa, to mark the 40th anniversary of the prefecture’s reversion to Japan from U.S. control, Chief Cabinet Secretary Osamu Fujimura said Tuesday.

Arrangements are being made for Noda, during his day trip to the prefecture, to hold talks with Gov. Hirokazu Nakaima, Fujimura told a news conference.

The ceremony, which will be hosted jointly by the central government and Okinawa Prefecture, will commemorate Okinawa’s return to Japanese sovereignty in 1972.
