SENDAI – A fishing boat that was swept away from Kesennuma, Miyagi Prefecture, by last year’s deadly tsunami has been found around 1,600 km away on a rocky stretch of Kikai Island in Kagoshima Prefecture, the coast guard said Friday.
The 5-meter-long, 0.4-ton vessel discovered Wednesday was confirmed to belong to a 64-year-old fisherman in Kesennuma based on its registration number, according to the 2nd Regional Coast Guard Headquarters in Miyagi.
