Panasonic to hike machinery output

Panasonic Corp. has announced a plan to boost overseas production and sales of factory-use machinery mainly in emerging economies such as China and India.

The company aims to increase global sales of such industrial equipment to over ¥200 billion in fiscal 2015 from ¥178 billion expected in fiscal 2011, which comes to a close at the end of this month.

It plans to garner 70 percent of the targeted sales for fiscal 2015 from outside Japan.

Panasonic is considering expanding sales of machines used to attach electronic parts to substrate at factories manufacturing smartphones.

The company also plans to double the production capacity for such machines at a factory in Jiangsu Province in China in fiscal 2012.

The electronics maker will also start producing welding machines used for manufacturing cars and building ships in India next December.
