The Naha District Court on Wednesday ordered an Okinawa resident to stop staging sit-ins and other activities aimed at blocking the construction of a U.S. military heliport, in a lawsuit filed by the central government against two protesters.

But the court, presided over by Judge Ryosuke Sakai, dismissed the state’s claim that the second protester had obstructed building work on the facility in the U.S. military’s Northern Training Area, which straddles the villages of Kunigami and Higashi on northern Okinawa Island.
