Tsukiji fire injures one firefighter

A fire broke out Sunday at Tsukiji fish market, police said, adding that a firefighter was slightly injured in the accident.

There could have been more injuries, but the sprawling market, a popular tourist attraction, had already closed for the day.

The fire started at 9 a.m. on the ground level of a two-story building and was brought under control in about an hour, police and firefighters said.

The cause of the fire may have been sparks from reinforcement work being carried out on the market, which was built in 1935, they said.
