Former Olympus Corp. President and CEO Michael C. Woodford left Japan on Saturday for New York, where he is scheduled to cooperate with U.S. authorities investigating the company's alleged coverup of investment losses.

During his visit to Japan, Woodford met investigators from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department and the Tokyo District Public Prosecutor's Office, and members of the Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission to assist their investigations into the Olympus scandal.

Woodford said his visit to Japan was "really positive," and voiced his expectations that domestic authorities will conduct a thorough probe into latent losses on securities investments that Olympus has hid since the 1990s.
