A fire broke out Thursday night at a thermal power plant in Yokohama, but no one was injured, firefighters said.

The blaze at the Isogo power plant, run by Electric Power Development Co., also known as J-Power, had almost been put out as of early Friday, with no casualties reported. Some 30 fire engines were dispatched to the site.

The company said the fire, which broke out shortly after 10 p.m., caused both of the plant's power generators to halt briefly at around 4 a.m. Friday.

No blackouts in neighboring areas were immediately reported, although J-Power had to suspend electricity supply to Tokyo Electric Power Co. and Tohoku Electric Power Co. for a short period of time.

The fire apparently started on a conveyor belt in the process of transporting coal from a freighter to a storage facility.
