A renowned department store in Sendai reopened Friday for the first time since the city was hit by the March 11 disaster.

The reopening of Fujisaki's main outlet marked another step toward Sendai's recovery.

A special market will be set up at Fujisaki through Tuesday at which more than 50 stores from disaster-hit regions will display and sell their wares.

The department store will also sell home wares such as dishes, towels and bedclothes at discounted prices.

While Fujisaki temporarily resumed business outdoors shortly after the disaster and reopened some floors on March 19.
