The energy agency said Saturday that rampant gasoline shortages in quake-damaged areas will soon be remedied by "makeshift service stations" that will appear at evacuation centers and elsewhere.

The mobile service stations are expected to be set up at 10 to 20 places in Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures by the Self-Defense Forces, the Natural Resources and Energy Agency official said.

The gas, which will be free, will be transported to the sites in 1,000 drum cans, which can hold 200 liters each.
