Agricultural and fisheries damage caused by heavy snow and other weather conditions since November has totaled about ¥13.7 billion, the farm ministry said in a preliminary report.
The total as of Friday included around ¥4.6 billion worth of damaged produce, including fruits and vegetables damaged in Shimane, Kagoshima and other prefectures when greenhouses collapsed or other incidents occurred, the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry said.
Damage to fishing gear, including sunken vessels, in prefectures such as Iwate and Tottori totaled about ¥8.3 billion.
