Comedian and actor Kei Tani died Saturday after injuring his head in an accident at his home, people close to him said. He was 78.

Tani, a Tokyo native whose real name was Yasuo Watanabe, made his name in the entertainment industry in the 1950s as a trombonist in the comic-jazz band Crazy Cats. The band found fame with appearances in popular TV shows through the early 1970s.
