KYOTO (Kyodo) A 12-year-old girl from Los Angeles on Monday became the millionth visitor to the Kyoto International Manga Museum, Japan’s first museum dedicated to manga.

Sixth-grader Liana Smale, visiting Japan with her family, received a commemorative gift from “Mamyu,” the museum’s mascot character.

She said she was happy to get the gift and that all of her friends are interested in manga.

The museum, which opened in November 2006, is run jointly by the city of Kyoto and Kyoto Seika University, which has a department of manga.
