Nissan Motor Co. said Thursday it received 3,754 preorders for its Leaf electric vehicle in the three weeks after it started taking orders April 1.

The preorders comprise more than half of Nissan's sales target of 6,000 units for the year to next March, the automaker said.

Nissan plans to introduce the electric vehicle in Japan, the United States and Europe in December with a starting price of ¥3.76 million in Japan.

The automaker said 64 percent of the preorders came from individuals and 36 percent from fleet customers.
