WASHINGTON (Kyodo) Nintendo Co. won a reversal at a U.S. federal appeals court Tuesday on an alleged patent infringement case involving the controls for some of its video game consoles, including the Wii.

The court overturned a 2008 Texas district court ruling that Nintendo infringed on a patent held by U.S. video game company Anascape Ltd. The Texas court had ordered Nintendo to pay $21 million in damages.

According to U.S. media reports, Anascape filed lawsuits in 2006 against Nintendo and Microsoft Corp. claiming the technology used in their controls infringed on its patent. Anascape reached a settlement with Microsoft in 2008.
