Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc. plans to appoint Katsunori Nagayasu, a director of the financial group and president of the group's core member, as president April 1, sources said Thursday.

Nagayasu, 62, will remain president of Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, they said, adding that Nobuo Kuroyanagi, 68, who has concurrently served as the financial group's president and BTMU's chairman, will concentrate on the job of bank chairman.

The financial group was expected to announce the appointment later Thursday, they said.

Since becoming BTMU president in 2008, Nagayasu has focused on managing the bank, overseeing system integration and navigating the financial crisis.
