Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will visit Japan for four days from Feb. 7 as part of his Asian tour, with plans to visit Hiroshima for the first time, a Palestinian official said.

The Japanese side is expected to formally notify the Palestinian leader of its intention to provide $20 million in aid and build a solar power plant in the West Bank town of Jericho.

Tokyo is also likely to commit itself to providing support for restarting the Middle Eastern peace process between the Israelis and the Palestinians, which remains in a stalemate.

During his trip to Hiroshima, Abbas will visit the Atomic Bomb Dome, which serves as a memorial of the tragedy.
