Former actor and singer Manabu Oshio was indicted Monday on a charge of giving Ecstasy to a woman who died after staying with him at a Tokyo apartment in August.

The Tokyo District Public Prosecutor's Office said Oshio, 31, broke the Narcotics Drug Control Law by giving the synthetic drug, also known as MDMA, to Kaori Tanaka, a 30-year-old bar employee, at his friend's apartment in Roppongi Hills on Aug. 2.

Oshio was given a suspended sentence for using the drug by the Tokyo District Court in November.

The woman died shortly after taking the Ecstasy tablets.
