A vessel operated by the antiwhaling group Sea Shepherd Conservation Society obstructed the operations of a patrol boat belonging to Japan’s whaling fleet in the Antarctic Ocean early Wednesday, the Fisheries Agency said.

People aboard Sea Shepherd’s new high-speed boat, the Ady Gil, repeatedly flashed laserlike beams onto Japan’s Shonan Maru No. 2 and threw colored balls at it from about 12:30 to 4 a.m. Wednesday Japan time, the agency said.
