Guam Gov. Felix Camacho has rejected the idea of relocating Okinawa's Futenma airfield to the U.S. territory, citing the island's limited capacity to host military facilities.

"We are already challenged with the present numbers of the relocation of 8,000 marines, and moving the entire Futenma base would not be possible due to our limited resources and capacity," Camacho said Wednesday after talks with visiting Defense Minister Toshimi Kitazawa, according to a news release from his office.

Kitazawa visited the Pacific island as the new administration seeks to review a 2006 agreement with Washington to relocate the operations of the Futenma base within Okinawa. The administration is now looking to move it out of Okinawa or even Japan altogether.
