A group of medical examiners set up an organization Wednesday that will allow doctors in remote areas to accurately determine patients' cause of death using postmortem image data sent over the Internet.

The AI (autopsy imaging) information center, established by members of the Japanese College of Radiology, aims to improve the accuracy of autopsies through advanced imaging technologies.

Autopsies in which the body is dissected are rare in Japan, with the cause of death mostly determined by a noninvasive examination. This can lead to the examiner overlooking evidence of a crime or making an inaccurate determination.
