WASHINGTON (Kyodo) U.S. President Barack Obama will visit Japan for the first time since taking office from Nov. 12-13 for talks with Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, the White House said Wednesday.

The summit in Tokyo will be the second between Obama and Hatoyama, following their meeting in New York in late September.

"The president's visit will provide an opportunity to deepen coordination with this key ally on a range of economic, security and other issues," White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said at a press briefing.

Following his visit, Obama will stop off in Singapore for a summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum from Nov. 14-15, before continuing on to Beijing and Shanghai from Nov. 15-18 and finally visiting Seoul from Nov. 18-19.

"The president will hold his third bilateral meeting with President Hu Jintao, to discuss ways to address challenges and expand cooperation on key bilateral, regional and global issues, including security, nonproliferation, energy and climate change," Gibbs said.
